Esa fue la pregunta que le hicieron los nietos al abuelo Juan.

-Hola abuelo, ¿nos cuentas una de esas historias de tu pueblo?

- Bueno, pero ¿que quieren que les cuente?

- Algo de sus comienzos.

-Está bien. Mi madre, mi padre y yo vivíamos con mi abuelo, que era dueño de enormes

campos, de lo que hoy es Empalme olmos. Un día, mi abuelo me contó que había donado

parte de los campos, para que se pudiera hacer una estación y también para que se pudieran

empalmar dos vías, que venían de Maldonado y Minas.

- Abuelo, empalmar ¿no es parecido a Empalme?

Si mi niña, eso mismo, yo te cuento porqué le pusieron de nombre Empalme Olmos.

-Abuelo, pero Olmos ¿no es el apellido de tu abuelo?

- Si, se lo pusieron en honor a mi abuelo, por todo lo que te conté antes..

Sabes, hacer la estación fue lo mejor, porque gracias a ella pudieron fundar el pueblo 

Empalme Olmos.

- Abuelo, ¿vos anduviste en algún tren que haya pasado por allí?

- Si claro, andar en tren es algo donde te inspiras.

- ¿Cuándo se fundó Empalme Olmos?

- Fue el veintiuno de Mayo de mil ochocientos noventa y cinco, hace unos ciento siete años atrás.

Y así fue como se le dio el nombre al pueblo donde vives tú hoy.
